Catering for individual needs through Multiple Intelligences
Most of the educational systems focus most of their attention on linguistic and logical – mathematical intelligence. However, we should also place equal attention on individual who show gifts in other intelligences, such as spatial, bodily – kinaesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal and naturalist intelligence.
We are the first school in Sri Lanka, who introduced and incorporated multiple intelligences theory in to the school curriculum. The theory of MI was developed in 1983 by Dr. Howard Gardner, professor of psychology at Harvard University USA. According to him there are 8 distinct intelligences to account for a broader range of human potential in children and adult. These intelligences can be encapsulated as follows.
At Asian Grammar School, children will be undergoing intense and extensive laboratory and project work to identify and develop their own personal intelligences, while maintaining minimum of 70 percent for all the subject from Grade one.
